Is coffee good or bad for you?

What are some tips for making a good cup of coffee with a bad drip coffee maker?

  • I've got the cheapest drip coffee maker mine can buy from Walmart. The only buttons on this thing are an on/off switch and a knob to control the "strength." Are there any ways to potentially get a decent cup of coffee out of this?

Are there any ways to potentially get a decent cup of coffee out of this? Yes, there are! Most cheap coffeemakers have the same weaknesses and it's up to you to compensate for them. Insufficiently heated water. It is generally accepted that the tastiest coffee is made with water that is heated to 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit. Most automatic home coffeemakers (cheap or otherwise) don't get the water this hot, but you can. Try heating your water in a stovetop or electric kettle before adding it to the coffeemaker's reservoir. If you have a thermometer and the machine will let you peek inside, measure the temperature of the water that is being released from the spray head. Adjust this temperature by filling the machine with hotter or cooler water. Uneven saturation. Most cheap spray heads don't wet the coffee grounds evenly. This can be resolved in at least two ways. If you're a handyman (unlike me), alter the spray head so that the grounds are evenly saturated. You can also interrupt the brewing process to stir the grounds and saturate the entire bed, but be careful: extra agitation can lead to over-extraction. If these strategies won't work for any reason, you can take another approach. Under-extraction is a common problem with cheap coffeemakers (addressed in my first suggestion) so anything you can do to increase the rate of extraction will probably help: Grind finer. Smaller particles extract faster, just like cookies bake faster than cakes. (Different factors at play when it comes to baking, of course.) Using a quality burr grinder, dial in a finer grind setting to increase extraction. Buy dark roasted coffees... if you can appreciate the flavor. I generally don't, but they do extract faster and will perform better with cooler brewing water, which is the main cause of under-extraction with cheap coffeemakers. Buy coffees grown at lower altitudes. Most coffee is grown at altitudes between 3,000 and 6,000 feet. Specialty roasters usually include growing information that is specific to their coffees on the packaging. Coffees that are grown in environments on the lower end of this range will extract faster. Enjoy!

Crank the 'strength' knob all the way over = goodness knows what that does, but more has got to be better. Put in 1 heaping tablespoon of coffee per 2 'cups' of water (as printed on the side of the carafe). Brew 8+ cups instead of 4 or 6 - it is easier to get a good mix with more than with less.  There is too much sensitivity at low volume. Use good tasting water (if you have a filter - use that).

The different hues in which pots are accessible are red, green, chestnut, blue, dark, white, copper, ivory white, silver and some more. Consequently, electric pots are astounding for bubbling water and for making sizzling espresso or tea. Check here http://groomandstyle.com/top-5-best-electric-kettle-reviews/

The answer is - you can make a better cup of coffee with a few hacks. It's up to you to taste test and determine if it is "good." The best way to make coffee with a drip brewer is to utilize the basket valve. When you pull out the coffee pot, the basket valve will close and the basket will retain the hot water while the machine is brewing. Leave the pot out for the first minute of the brew cycle. This will create what is called "full immersion." The coffee grinds inside the basket will become completely submerged while the water fills it. Then put the coffee pot back into place before the basket overflows. It will dispense coffee quickly. Once the rate of coffee begins to slow down again, pull the coffee pot out and allow the basket to fill again. Do this over and over again until the machine dispenses all of the water. Another hack is pre-wetting the coffee before starting the machine.  It is simple, (while the machine is OFF and the pot out) fill the basket and filter with coffee grinds and pour hot water (195F) over the entire batch making sure all of the grinds are wet. I call this "activating the grinds." Let it sit for about 20 seconds then place the pot in. Then turn on the machine. What this does is allows you to get a better extraction from the coffee, similar to my first suggestion.

Absolutely, a good cup of coffee is not decided by the price of the coffee maker. It is more a case of good quality ingredients. To make the best cup of coffee you need: good coffee beans, as freshly grounded coffee tastes best a coffee grinder a coffee maker good quality water grind you coffee beans put a paper filter in the coffee maker add 1 tablespoon of coffee per cup I always add a little bit of salt put the correct amount of good water in the reservoir switch the machine on and let all the water run through don't leave the finished coffee too long before you pour a cup.
