Customs and duty?

What do you do when your online purchase has arrived at your local post office but with a Customs Duty charge which the seller's site never told you about?

  • So I ordered some stuff from the U.S. (http://www.photojojo.com) worth $245 and they charged me $30 for shipping through USPS (U.S. Postal Service). Now turns out it's reached the India Post office in Noida but with an additional Customs Duty charge of $51 (approx INR 2832) which I'm expected to pay to take delivery. Any tips on how this customs duty can be refuted (if at all) since none of the products (reflecting mirror, tripod, photo frames, etc) are electronic in nature? Also, does it make sense to debate the customs duty before accepting the delivery, or post acceptance?

  • Answer:

yes, you have to pay for the custom duty. any product imported from any part of the world, the seller i only responsible to sell and shipping. to clear the local government issue, is a part of the buyers matter. import duty depends upon the buyers home land. seller can not control that. you have to pay the duty.
