How many visits per day does a website need to receive to make banner ad hosting worthwhile?

  That's an outstanding question and one that I'm asked with frequency. I hesitate to give a generic answer because the value ('worthwhile') of each site's visitors can vary immensely. If your site only has 100 uniques/day but those unique visitors consist of loyal, connected consumers then you may be able to reap a good return on certain sale/CPA/CPL products, provided they're relevant to your site/blog/page. That said, getting paid per impression or CPM would drastically reduce your income with the same viewership but conversely would make MORE sense if your viewers are there to browse, and the content/loyalty factor isn't as deeply bound (thus, you'd earn based on viewership, not viewer action).
