Cheap speaker system with optical input?

Audio Equipment: What is the best portable speaker system with HDMI passthrough or AC-3 optical input?

• I'd like something to pair with a small projector and appletv or ps3 or other source for transportable use; ideally something smaller than a standard home theater receiver plus speakers.  All portable systems seem to only accept rca inputs, and the appletv and other devices produce no analog output.

Creative Soundworks, Bose, JBL and Altec Lansing all make good quality systems. The smallest would probably be the Bose Companions since they're 2.0, but wouldn't give much bass at room-filling volumes (they get their bass from active equalization which only goes so far with such a small "woofer"), but at least you wouldn't be lugging a subwoofer around. Look for something that's a manageable size, weight and price and has good voice quality without distortion at the levels you're looking for.
