What is the best software, online or not, for running a live volunteer-organized fundraising auction event?
-
I have used Ready Set Auction and found it to be capable, but not user-friendly or particularly flexible. The auction is an annual event to support my church.

Answer:
I am partial to the platform that we built Handbid (http://www.handbid.com) that has both web and mobile components and integrates into Facebook. What is nice about Handbid is that you can have both an online-only and on-site auction that is seamless (e.g. start the auction online and then finish it at your event). Handbid has iPad kiosks so your non-connected bidders can participate at the event. We built Handbid because we felt the solutions out there didn't meet our needs. See, not only do I build technology, I also am on the board of several non-profits and we run a huge auction each year at our Kentucky Derby fundraiser. (http://www.pwsderby.com) Handbid was built with online/offline auctions in mind and bridges that gap rather well.

Please consider my company's software as an alternative - http://www.schoolauction.net/ (we're not just for schools). BUT... in the interest of a full and helpful answer, here are some of our other competitors, which have significant market share and non-profits who love using them: Greater Giving (http://www.greatergiving.com) MaestroPro (http://maestrosoft.com) Bidding For Good (http://www.biddingforgood.com) Auction! (http://www.auctionsystems.com)

Accelevents (http://www.accelevents.com) is also a another good option and only charges $1 per person who participates in the silent auction. You can run your event online or via text-message (or both). It also has an integration Stripe for credit card processing and no hidden fees. I'm one of the founders of Accelevents. We built the system to meet our own needs then found that others wanted to use it too.

You should check out http://www.giveffect.com, they've worked with other nonprofits who hosted a volunteer-organized fundraising auction event. They can process: > Ticket Purchase with their event management solution > Volunteer recruitment + shift management > Event-based fundraising page to collect donations at the entrance/exits/kiosk + process auction item payments (online + offline tracking) and it's: > Mobile Friendly! > Embeds from your site, incase others want to donate before/after the day of the event.

I'd also check out http://www.WinningCause.org. It's a free online auction venue for schools, churches and nonprofits, through which you keep 100% of your auction proceeds. What you get: Free mobile web app. (Bidders love this) Free credit card processing. (Organizations love this) We'll match 3% of your auction revenues in 2012. (You'll love this!) Much more. With free credit card processing (saving you 3%) and our 3% match of your auction proceeds, you're effectively 6% to the good before you even start.

There are some good products out there for fundraising as you can see from the answers on here. We have a product that you can compare called All In The Loop, our software will let you create an app for your volunteer organized auction event. We have tried to keep it easy to use and flexible whilst being feature rich. http://www.allintheloop.com You can setup and run silent auctions, post buy now items, take pledges, sell ticket and it includes an invite system and private social network with messaging to icrease engagement. One unique feature we have is an option allowing people you invite to the event to upload auction item also. Another product you should look at is Bidpal.
