On the more blog-ish side: http://designinstruct.com Design Instruct is a web-magazine for designers and digital artists that post tips and tricks for tutorials or just inspiration. http://css-tricks.com More on the dev side, css-tricks is quite self-explanatory but goes into more detail in areas of CSS, JS, HTML and even PHP. http://webdesign.tutsplus.com/ I follow several of Tuts+'s different blogs. They are thorough guides on hot topics. If you like it, and you are interested in learning more about the dev side, I highly recommend their http://net.tutsplus.com. And on the forum side: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ Digital point has a forum on HTML & Web Design, it's quite massive. http://www.webdesignforums.net/ http://www.estetica-design-forum.com/ Bonus: Here is an extract from a really interesting blog-post I found yesterday with original and elaborate designs and UI/UX: http://lostworldsfairs.com/atlantis/ http://2011.beercamp.com/ http://www.designmadeingermany.de/magazin/5/ http://analog.coop/ http://www.guidetotheappgalaxy.com/ http://www.8vodesigns.com/ http://www.onebitincrement.com/#/home Source: http://mashable.com/2011/05/15/web-design-inspiration/#142577-One-Bit-Increment

I Just wanted to congratulate you on taking this decision. Now let's get to the talking. Running forums and producing content that answers questions with people is daunting task.(Being a admin of site and forum i like to put this point across). I have been mod, admin for various forums and discussion boards if there is one essential stuff people do to increase their visitor count is deviate from reason the forum was first setup for!! I would like you to answer few a questions Why a forum/discussion board? So what is your discussion board trying to solve for them? Do you have any experience in setup scripts like SMF, PhpBB, Vanilla Forums? Do you have administration knowledge with any of this scripts? It seems this question is out here because you lack knowledge on how to start your work right? Here are some tips i would like to give you, Go to the developers website of SMF, PhpBB etc these are software that are well tested and enable anyone to start a discussion board. See the features, read some reviews on what the problems admin had using these softwares, check if these are pluggable (has plugins etc to enhance your website) I personally recommend using SMF because of it's ease of use, administration and roles and remarkable plugin system. This i recommend after a year of struggling with PhpBB. Check out if there are sites that exists that does the same thing or similar to thing that is cause for your discussion board ( I am sure it exists). Write down a list of things your discussion board will provide that is going to be different from others. It is always that people lookout for solution to problems on discussion boards. So don't waste time in putting extra categories like General, Chit Chat etc where trolling and spamming is certainly to occur. Keep your discussion board dead simple. Not too much, Not too less the right amount. ( You set it up and gimme a link i will judge the content if you want to) more tips i have but no time now. Will add later
