Work for computer student?

How can I find a computer science student in London with PHP and mySQL skills to work with me on a startup idea?

  • I'm not much of a developer but have mocked up a basic prototype. I'm thinking of taking a week off work to work on the site and get something up and running. I'm thinking if I can find a capable and interested student in their summer break it would be a win win. For them: - an interesting paid job (I'd be happy to pay them) - an opportunity to put thier skills to use to develop a real application - if it takes off an opportunity to be a key part of a startup either part or full time For me: - a big boost for me in helping develop the site - an opportunity for me to work with then to improve my own coding (hence the reason I care about location) My question is 2 fold, how should I go about finding someone? And is this even a good idea?

    Try http://freelancer.com or try the local PHP users group. It's always a good idea to get a programmer on a software job, but CS grads often do not have the real world pragmatism that you need to rush this through in a week, you might be better off finding a much more experienced person and negotiating with them for a week's work

Campus Google, definitely one of the best places. Also as I am one of those developers who work on PHP+MySQL, I'd suggest you look into various online resources like elance to hire someone. I would also suggest you try developing on Rails or Python instead, you'll understand this in the long run. Good luck.
