Can internet use cause the release of endorphins (or other neurotransmitters) and lead to addictive behavior?
-
Are there certain types of internet use that are more likely to trigger release of endorphins or other neurotransmitters? For example constantly checking for updates (emails, FB posts, tweets) or surfing for news or cool new insights where finding what you are looking for triggers the physiological gratification cycle. Could this pattern of rapid gratification cycles lead to addictive behavior? If not addiction as formally defined than at least parallel behaviors?

Answer:
Yes, but it wouldn't properly be called "Internet addiction". It would be called "Facebook addiction" or "pornography addiction" or "quora addiction". The Internet is just a window.
