Why does Blogger use the Blogspot domain for its hosted blogs, and not the Blogger one?

I get that Blogspot was long merged into Blogger, but why is http://blogspot.com and not http://blogger.com the domain name of choice?

The guys at Blogger want to show that http://Blogger.com and http://Blogspot.com are 2 different things... 1. http://Blogger.com has an alexa rank of 67. 2. blogspot has varying alexa ranks. So, to make sure the blogs are not confused with the blog editor, they did this...
