Advantage (depending upon implementation some of these can turn into disadvantages) • Employment (1 amp/1000 tourist) (labor intensive, few administrative positions, little upward mobility.) • Infrastructure development (roads, water, electricity, telecom and cybercom, but not necessarily local priorities.) • Cultural preservation (economic incentives to preserve food, fashion, festivals and physical history, but these tend to be superficial elements of a culture.) • environmental protection (econ incentives to preserve nature, wildlife and urban http://www.blurtit.com/q625460.html) • Foreign exchange (generates resources to import food, pharmaceuticals, technology, consumer goods.) • Development of health care services (those these aren't always available to local people.) Disadvantages (depending upon implementation some of these can turn into advantages) • Cultural destruction, (http://www.blurtit.com/q863104.html (world mono-culture), freezes culture as performers, loss: Language, religion, rituals, material culture.) • primary products (sun, sand, surf, safari, suds, ski, sex) (little value added, neo-colonialism) • Environmental destruction (game drives, resorts: Golf, ski, beach, desert, world as play ground, SUV.) • Marginal employment (low skill, low wage, menial services, prostitution, drug trade, http://www.blurtit.com/q927958.html, hustlers.) • low benefits (no job security, no health care, no organizing, no work safety rules or environ standards.) • Development of illegal and/or destructive economic activities (markets for drugs, endangered species, etc.) • Outside hiring (skilled middle and senior management recruited out of the area and transferred in.) • Concentration employment (walled resort enclaves.) • seasonal employment • Outside http://www.blurtit.com/q931434.html (decisions made outside of the area, corporate dollars corrupt government.) • Unrealistic expectations (divert young people from school and brighter futures.) • anti-democratic collusion (industry support of repressive governments) • Land controlled by the elite (people relocated, agriculture eliminated, prohibited from N.P.) • negative lifestyle's (STD's, substance abuse, http://www.blurtit.com/q798206.html, hustling) • diverted and concentrated development (airport, roads, water, electricity to tourist destinations, development not accessible to locals), • little forex stays in country (airplanes, vehicles, booze, hot air balloons, generally have foreign owners), • package programs • Cruises (eat and sleep on board so the economic benefits to the ports-of-call are very thin and limited.) • unstable market (fickle, affected by local and world events, generally highly elastic) • Health http://www.blurtit.com/q561300.html (traveling to get medical procedure at lower cost) has it own set of unique challenges, which include: Determining the credential, skills and quality of the facility and personnel. Language communication challenges on topics requiring a lot of details, sometimes even when both parties seemingly speak the same language. Different cultural issues and expectations around health care and the body.  Post-treatment complications, after the "tourist" has left the facility. Solutions (for visitor) • act to support cultural diversity • engage in activities that add value to the community • don’t do activities that deteriorate the environment • don’t engage in illegal activities • act to disperse the benefits • Patronize locally (community) owned enterprises. Solutions (for the host) • support the traditional cultural legacy • Training and education in local http://www.blurtit.com/q938828.html, history, natural science, etc. • select development and activities that draw from local traditions and add value to the community • don’t promote activities that deteriorate the environment • don’t engage in illegal activities • adopt a program to disperse the benefits • Patronize locally produced products and locally (community) owned enterprises. • Make business and foreign exchange transactions transparent and efficient. We don't really see a different list of pros and cons for tourism in rural and urban areas. Rural or urban, the result largely depend upon how the business is conducted: Are visitors coming and supporting what the community prides itself in and in a way that perpetuates and sustains (or improves) the quality of life in the community)? Are the activities of the tourist detrimental to the values, environment and culture of the community in the long run?

Torurism has many advantages. Socially tourism can help in getting people together and to know their cultures, that is how people come together by tourism one culture is transfered to the other culture, which makes a new culture. Tourism on the other hand has its economic benefits for the host country. It is actually a trade between countries. If a person goes out of your country to the other country will obviously get a ticket visa etc and the revenue will come to the host country if that is international tourism however, domestically it has the same benefit. We know that tourists are usually the rich class. If some of their money is spent on tourism their money may go to government as a revenue which in turn will help to increase govt expenditures for development. Tourism in marketing is called destination marketing. It is obvious that tourism today is a commodity trade and have its benefits. As far as social benefits are concern. Tourism can help in bringing people together, understanding eachother and influencing eachother by own way of life which in turn wil mix the culture and may form a new culture. Tourism has its advantages for one's health aswell. Makes you happy and feel good. And happiness in one which can refresh your brain, also it helps in understanding the nature. It has its disadvantages in the sense if a community is conservative in its culture and by traveling you want to mix their culture they may react harshly at you. The other corn is that tourism can disclose secret information about a country. And tourism can help in understanding the people psyche. By then using your tactics you can occupy that land. As history has shown. That is what USA is doing, we have the story of IRAQ US, Afghan US. And now pakistan US. Hopefully this critical overview will help you. You can have your say! Goodluck

I guess one advantage may be development of infrastructure and this applies mostly to tourism in developing nations. On the other side a disadvantage might be moral and cultural decay since many people might want to associate themselves with the western world . THANKS

The disadvantages are that the culture hasn’t been recognised by the tourists and the modern side has taken over.   The money doesn’ t really go to the local people sometime and it isn’t unfair to those people.   Many resources have to go to the tourists. Some of the money needs to go on medicines and tablets for people that are ill, but illnesses, diseases ect. Become more increasing. Tourism harms the environment and wildlife, for example, animal don’t like tourists because they make noises. Lol doing this essay on travel nd tourism soo I don't no that much thats all I can say

Well more people mean more joining of other cultures as people meet.  More jobs for the people in the area as more more places like restaurantes and shops open.  Cultural preservation. With people visiting means that more cultural places can stay open as the tourism industry brings in money.
