Answer:
Registered nurses can enjoy a fulfilling career because they provide health care to those who are ill and help them to become well. Nurses may also interact with families and help provide emotional support. They may be employed by hospital, clinics or other health care facilities. Registered nurses must meet certain requirements that vary according to each state. Requirements include education, criminal background check and license. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses are expected to see an employment growth of 22 percent from 2010 to 2018. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions Obtain a college degree. Obtain a nursing degree, which is offered at many local colleges or universities. Ensure that the school is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Expect to take courses in anatomy, nutrition and other courses related to nursing. You will also work in hospitals under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse. Expect a bachelor's degree program to take up to four years to complete. If you have already obtained a degree in another field, enroll into an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program. This allows you to receive a nursing degree in 12 to 18 months. Pass the National Council Licensure Exam. After graduating from an accredited nursing program, register for the NCLEX-RN by submitting an application to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Expect to pay an exam fee of $200. Passing the exam is required in order to become licensed in your state. Pass a background check. Most states require a criminal background check. Submit a copy of your fingerprints to the Board of Nursing in the state where you'll be employed. A criminal check will be performed and any criminal convictions that are discovered can prevent you from becoming licensed. Apply for a license. After you have passed the NCLEX-RN exam, you may submit an application to the Board for a license. Check your state for other requirements for registered nurses because requirements vary according to each state. After the Board approves the application, you may add "RN" behind your name signature.
