Answer:
Making your own homemade toothpaste is fun and economical. Many people are switching to homemade toothpaste to eliminate the use of chemicals in their mouths. Chemicals such as silica, sulfates, polymers and titanium dioxides are just a few of the ingredients in commercial retail toothpaste. The ingredients required to produce toothpaste at home are probably already in your cabinets. With so many variations and flavorings available, you will have a lot of fun making homemade toothpaste regularly. Difficulty: Easy Things You'll Need Small bowl Baking soda Hydrogen peroxide Small dropper Small glass jar Table salt Wooden spoon Measuring spoon Glycerin Flavoring oil Water Instructions Nonflavored Homemade Toothpaste Place 2 tbsp. baking soda in a small bowl. You may alter the amount of baking soda to accommodate the quantity of toothpaste you wish to have on hand. Measure 1 tsp. hydrogen peroxide in a measuring spoon. Squeeze the end of a dropper and place the tip into the hydrogen peroxide. Release your squeeze to allow the peroxide to enter the dropper. Add enough hydrogen peroxide, one drop at a time, to the baking soda to make a thick paste. Store this homemade nonflavored toothpaste in a small glass jar with an airtight lid in a dark location. Flavored Homemade Toothpaste Lay a small bowl on a flat surface. Measure out 6 tsp. baking soda and add to the small bowl. Add 1/3 tsp. regular table salt to the baking soda. Mix the baking soda and salt together with a wooden spoon. Measure 4 tsp. glycerin and add to the two ingredients in the small bowl. Use a dropper to add up to 15 drops of oil for flavoring, such as peppermint, mint, wintergreen or vanilla oil. Add more or less flavoring oil according to your individual taste. Mix all ingredients thoroughly with the wooden spoon. Add enough water to the mixture to form a thick paste, similar to commercial toothpaste available in stores. Store the homemade toothpaste in an airtight container, away from heat and light. Add more water to the toothpaste if it begins to dry out. Tips & Warnings Tip: One way to apply the homemade toothpaste to the toothbrush is to place the toothpaste into a small plastic bag, then cut one of the bottom corners off. Squeeze the toothpaste out just as you would store-bought toothpaste. Another method for placing the toothpaste onto the toothbrush is to use a plastic butter knife to spread the desired amount onto the toothbrush.
