How do you attach a rear view mirror?

I was adjusting the rear view mirror in my 1998 Honda Prelude and it came off in my hand. It does not appear to have been broken it came off in one piece. Does anyone know how you can re-attach it?

  • Answer:

You can buy special mirror glue for it. I don't think it is glued. If It is the same as my 2001 Prelude, you must remove the dome light cover by prying it off at the front, then remove the Dome Light assembly by removing the two screws. After removing the Dome Light, you must pry off the plastic piece that surrounds the Dome Light. Be careful. There should now be a triangle shaped piece. Remove it by removing the 3 screws. There will be a loose washer. On the rear view mirror assembly that came off, there's a screw in the center of the end opposite to the mirror end. Remove screw. Assemble that end to the triangle part by inserting screw thru the metal washer that was loose. Tighten screw finger tight. Replace the mirror by attaching the triangle with the 3 screws. Replace the plastic surround piece and replace Dome Light and Dome light Cover. Hope that helps
