  The Bible doesn't say that 666 is the number of the Devil. It says: "...it is the number of a MAN..." (Rev.13:18). The Bible refers to this "man" as "the Beast." Theories abound as to "why" the number is "666." One idea that "6" is "man's number" and "7" is God's number... based on the "seven day week." God allots "6" days for man to do his work... but the "7th" is the "Lord's Sabbath" that "completes" the week, in which man's work is to cease. God's number [7] is thought by some to represent "completion" or "completeness." Along with this goes the idea that "3" symbolizes "perfection." One example of which can be found in the structure of the book of Revelation, in which we see "three" sets of "sevens" -- the seven seals, the seven trumpet plagues and the seven vials of God's wrath. By the end of the prophetic book of Revelation, then, we see the "perfect completion" of God's plan... and a "new beginning" for the Family of God. So, if this comparison can be made regarding the number "7" -- a similar one might be made regarding the number "6" and "man." The Bible doesn't go into it... it's just one of many theories of men with which to pass one's time. "6" falls just short of "7"... not quite "complete." Man isn't "done" yet. So, perhaps "666" might mean "perfectly flawed." The ultimately imperfect man. The Bible does tell us that the "Beast" will be "possessed by Satan" [the Dragon - Rev.12:9]: "...I... saw a Beast rise up out of the sea... and upon his heads the name of blasphemy... and the Dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority." (Rev.13:1-2) This "man" [Beast] is the one that men, today, refer to as "the Antichrist." [The Bible doesn't call him that... but men do]. As Adam and Eve sold themselves and their children into slavery to the Dragon in the beginning... so might this prophesied "final human leader of Satan's world" be "perfectly evil" and instrumental in bringing all the generations of man's labors to a "perfectly human" conclusion: the end of all life on earth, unless God steps in to stop it and Jesus Christ returns. "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:22) We are told when Jesus returns to earth in wrath, making war... the first two that He rounds up will be ol' number "666," the "Beast," and his priest, the False Prophet, whose miracles and lying wonders shall have caused the world to "worship the Beast." "...the Beast was taken, and with him the False Prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the Beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a Lake of Fire burning with brimstone." (Rev.19:20) One thing is sure. Before anyone can figure out who the Beast is "by adding up his name to equal 666"... the whole world will know who he is. Only he won't be seen as "the Antichrist." He'll be viewed as "the savior of the world" a "worshiped hero" and a "god." "...all the world wondered after the Beast. And they worshipped the Dragon [the world has been worshiping Satan since the Garden of Eden] which gave power unto the Beast: and they worshipped the Beast, saying, Who is like unto the Beast? Who is able to make war with him?" (Rev.13:3-4) The Devil is a "spirit being" and doesn't have a number. "666" is the number of a man. A "perfectly wicked" man whom Satan will use to bring the world to the brink of destruction and the cessation of all life on it, if God doesn't step in to stop it as the Bible prophesys.
