How does da work in this context what if you wanted to say I am comming from palermo is it the same, how do you distinguish between I am comming from or to palermo with vengo da palermo?

There must be a mistake. It can't possibly mean "to Palermo". Are you sure you've read the section slowly and carefully? If so, there must be a mistake in the book. "Coming", by the way; not 'comming'.
