How do I know if I completed an online purchase?

How do i know the purchase orders were paid?

• i just started a new job. my boss throws me work to do and doesnt really answer me when i ask questions. i work in the purchasing department. she gave me a stack of old purchase orders and old invoices. she told me to match up the purchase orders with the correct invoices. after i match the PO to the Invoice - I am to check if the invoice is paid. Only a few invoices had a purchase order number written on it, they were easy to match PO and Invoice. Most Invoices did not have a PO number written on it. i brought it to her attention that i couldnt match some purchase orders. she responded "file the purchase orders that dont have invoices".... but okay - my understanding of why i was originally even sorting the purchase orders to invoices was so that i could check which purchase orders were paid. i check which ones were paid by using SAP to look up the vendor and type in the invoice number. but again if shes asking me to file purchase orders with no invoice number attached, how would i know if they were paid? i already tried asking her this question but she just repeated herself 3x saying "file the purchase orders that were paid" with no explanation given please help - how do i know if the purchase orders i have are paid then???

• Answer:

  Go to the Paid Invoices file, which will be sorted by vendor name in the Accounts Payable Dept. Then you can match paid invoices to their related Purchase Order. If the system matches vendor's invoice with the PO and the receiving report before payment is made, all 3 documents should be filed together, or at least noted that they were matched.
