If you cancel your American Express credit card can you still redeem Skymiles?

  • I have an American Express credit card that I will be closing in September to avoid the $95 annual fee. I have accrued about 25,000 Delta Skymiles. Will I still be able to access that account and use the Delta Skymiles after closing the account in September or do I have to use the Skymiles prior to canceling the card?

Nope. You have just learned the secrets of these cards and how they make money. Enjoy trying to use those skymiles. You can't get the cheap price you get in travelocity, etc. And you have to pay out of the ying-yang to take someone with you. In your next life time, get a card with 1% cash back - better deal, hands down.
