What happens if you faint during a serious exam ? Leaving Cert?

  • Hey I am becoming a little worried about my final exams (leaving cert) coming up. I am prone to headaches and Migraine/ neuralgia which I do tend to get often. I am sure it is triggered by stress, but it happens quite often maybe twice a week on average, but during exams, it increased tenfold. It starts with a tension headache across my head and then I get this sharp shooting pain that runs from my left side of my head and shoots towards my arm.Always on my left side. On a daily basis it affects me a little, like I'd have to take an hour to chill and relax, and im OK. Just last year during my summer exams I didnt do what is representative of my class work, and I failed 3 of my subjects, because I couldnt concentrate, the pain got to me to much and when I recovered I felt kinda weak and drowsy and It meant my exams couldnt be finished on time or not as well as I'd hoped for. I also have a record of fainting often. Like maybe once every two months, but it only happens in stressfull situations or if I am over concentrating and working hard or when playing sports. I have fainted in the exam hall before, and Im worried it will happen again. Its a big worry of mine, because If I faint, will I have time to finish an exam, or will I feel well enough to finish the exam. After I faint I usually feel week for an hour or so. My teachers are aware of my fainting and headaches seeing as they have been dealing with me for the past 6 years. Im just worried about my leaving cert and final exams, If it happens, Im basically screwed for the subject. Its my final exam, and Its the exam that deciede if I go to university or not. Fainting and feeling faint also oddly happens when I am underground, luckily I live in Ireland, but in London, Munich, Paris or any other underground system ive been in I have felt really unwell and faint. I have been to the doctors many times about it. But as of yet I havent been diagnosed with anything at all. I have had blood tests ( which I fainted getting lol) and MRI scan. And everything is absolutely perfect. So she says it boils down to stress and a weak Vasovagal Response, which means Im prone to fainting. My mom is epileptic and has neuralgia also, so Its probably genetic. Im worried about just getting over my exams. and Im worried if something happens, because its kinda embarrassing when it happens and its just, if i dont do well with them, I feel I wont get the course I want. Im wondering in my exams, can they accommodate me to do the exam when I am feeling better or give me some credit, or whats the procedure for when something like this happens. Is there anyway of preventing something like this happening. I have a remedy oil, but it makes me drowzy, its definitely a no no for exams.

  • Answer:

Your teachers will see you through it. As you said, they've been working with you for 6 years. If you have specific questions and concerns talk to them.

I have a similar problem....Maybe you could ask your subject teacher or head of house or year and explain to them your situation and ask if you can do your exam somewhere else such as a classroom this might help your nerves and your headaches as i find that in halls i feel anxious and i cant concentrate at all and my vision goes really blurry as i get so worked up and feel so ill as i have bad anxiety...My teacher agreed as i asked and it really did help me loads and my teachers did see a HUGE improvement in my grades.. good luck!!! :) (Ive Got an exam tomorrow in the classroom)

Go to a health shop or a good chemist/supermarket and get a bottle of Rescue Remedy, a natural health preparation with no contraindications or side effects. RR helps calm and soothe and is ideal for exam stress. You take it by putting a few drops on your tongue and you can take as many doses as you need, it is impossible to overdose on it because it is completely harmless. Get some now and start taking it straight away, keep it in your pocket and take it as often as you remember to. On the morning of your exam take it every 10-15 minutes or so. Its a wonderful natural medicine and really works. This should keep you calm so you don't trigger any migraine/fainting stress responses. I have been a qualified practitioner of Bach Flower Remedies for many years, of which this Rescue Remedy is part of.
