What should i do about my rash?

What do I do if I am not happy with a diagnosis my Dr has given me? I need help re a severe rash from the Sun?

  • I have always suffered prickly heat in the sun. However, over the last 5 or so years my reaction to the Sun has gotten worse and worse. Now it is at the point where I never go abraod and never sit in the Sun, however some days you just can't avoid it. I wear factor 30 but always suffer really bad hives whenever I'm caught in the sun. It is a mixture of large boil like spots and smaller spots in a raised red rash. It is very itchy and painful. I went to my Dr who said it's a reaction to the Sun and to just take anti histamines. I have visited the DR several times regarding this and each time he says the same. However anti histamines are of no help at all, the rash lingers for weeks and weeks and it is unsightly. I am at the end of my tether, I have no idea what to do. I feel like I need help for it but my Dr doesn't take me serious and I cannot be expected to live life either hiding from the Sun or hiding away after being caught in the sun because I look like I have the plague. What can I do?

Hives are one of the hardest things for doctors to work on. I would recommend that you think of hives as a two step process. The second step you know what happens when you go out in the sun and the hives appear. Now it is up to you to figure out what the first step is. My guess is that the first step is something that you are eating that is setting your body up to respond with hives when you are out in the sun. In my case, gluten was the culprit. I had hives for 10 years and accidentally stopped consuming gluten when I went on a low carb diet and within weeks my my hives stopped. Gluten is found in wheat, rye and barley grains and products made from them. So quit consuming anything with those grains or made from them for 1-3 months and see if your hives stop. There are other food groups that can also do the same thing. Dairy, some fruits, nightshade vegetables, histamine rich foods. So try one grouping and if that doesn't work move onto another. Keep a food and drink diary so you know what you are eating and the ingredients in each food. Good luck and if you have questions, contact me through here. Hives can be very painful and I know how life limiting they can be.

Well, if I were you I would go get a second opinion.....just to be sure. Don't mention your current diagnosis....just go in there and tell them that you want their diagnosis without saying anything. Has your doc done any lab work? .....I would definately see another doc just to be sure. Remember doctors make mistakes sometimes that's why its called the "practice" of medicine. The body is very complex. I've had several situations I've seen docs make the wring diagnosis. Also, diseases can change, symptoms can morph....are u on any medication? They could possibly be resposibke. Also...ADD some alternative medicine in....get some Chinese medicine, accupressure, frolic massage, start meditating....also, see yourself healthy. Don't be obsessed with your skin. I know its hard but you are more than your skin. See a makeup artist or look at the cosmetic counters to get a concealed and then forget about it. I have a green concealed that covers red spots from maybelline. It's cheap and works pretty well. Get a makeup brush (concealed) and lightly feather it over your red spots until its bkended in......I know you are not going to believe it but your action of doing little things will open uo doors to find solutions and make tou feel better....I'm really sorry you are going through this. I really am very sorry....you may have to make some adjustments. It stinks when you love something and have to live without it. If it comes back you are allergic to the sun(after a second opinion) then you need to start getting interested in doing things at night and cover up during the st and stay indoors. Find other things that make you happy. Maybe learn how to play the piano or learn a new language, read books or order netflix and watch movies. Shop at night or online. Make sure you still GI some fun things with your friends or family. See a movie at night, go out to dinner, go to a play once in a while......don't allow yourself to feel like a hermit or an outcast. Stay active. I have seen peopke have a total turnaround when they add some fresh water, vitamins. Massage and meditation to their lives. You will be amazed how much better you are if you just add a few things from this list to your life. Make the.best of your situation...I wish you well as you improve each day.
