• hi I'm currently a nz citizen I want to go to uk to work there after I graduate university in nz I wanna know the process of getting the citizenship successfully there as a new zealander. Can I live there for some time and apply for citizenship straight away or do you have to get permanent residency first? Do you get permanent residency automatically(the moment you get there)? or do you have to live there for some years and apply for it? or can you just apply for a citizenship after a few years of living there. I went to the uk site that explains all this with all the confusing stuff like british territory, british subject, I couldn't understand my eligibility clearly. So, could anyone please explain it with consideration that I'm from nz and the most appropriate process that would serve me the best. and I've never been to uk in my life don't have grandparents born or any other family members living there.

  There isn't a process for you to work there after you graduate - there are no post graduate schemes & the expectation is that you complete your course and leave If your ultimate goal is citizenship then being a student in the UK is not the route - time spent in the UK on a student visa doesn't count towards the eligibility period for permanent residence and/or citizenship, only a work visa can help you gain citizenship You need to be legally resident in the UK for 5 years, on a work visa, before you become eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) which is the British equivalent of PR then once you've held ILR for a year you become eligible to apply for citizenship by naturalistion - the whole process could take 6 or 7 years
