How can I strengthen my natural speaking voice?

Would you rather have a deep speaking voice, or a normal singing voice?

  • So, I'm a guy and I have a real deep voice. And I like it, other people like it and it's great. Except that if I try to sing anything I have to sing it an octave or two lower than what the original singer sings it in. And I feel that songs don't sound all that great in a deeper octave. So my question is, would you rather have (which is better) a nice deep "speakers" voice or a regular "singers" voice? So would you rather be awesome sounding while speaking, or awesome sounding while singing?

  • Answer:

I would honestly rather have a deep speaking voice, though I must admit, I sing bass, so having a deep voice for me is advantageous. You can still sound good while singing with a deep voice, it just won't sound like the original artist (unless you're singing stuff like Barry White). Having a deep singing voice isn't necessarily a bad thing, you just need to learn how to utilize it to get the best sound, which might not be the same way people with higher singing voices work. Hope this helps.

Well, you speak a lot more often than you sing. I have a rather deep voice myself, and it's proven to be helpful over the years. People seem to see you as being more mature, and they tend to listen to you a bit more keenly, or so I've observed. This is especially helpful to me, being a teacher and all. Singing is only so helpful, so I'd rather have my deep voice.
