Career advice - preschool teacher?

I want to become a teacher but they dont make as much as money...any career advice?

• I have always wanted to become a special ed. teacher. But I hear that teachers constantly get laid off and that they don't make much. Most teachers nowadays are getting a second job because they don't make a good living. At-least that's what I heard. Any great career advice?

  I actually just finished my first year as a teacher last month, and it's true. There are a lot of layoffs and budget cuts in the education field right now. However, the joy of working with the students makes up for it all :) Almost. While I love my students, I know I can't start off being a teacher because I have college debt, student loans and bills to pay off. I prefer to have some steady, not-so-low income first. So I decided that I'm going back to school in another field. I would work in the other field a bit until I can save up some money and then return to teaching. Financially, that is the only possibility for me now. Another option is to get your Master's degree. It will pay more but in this job market, you'll also be harder to hire. With budget cuts, employers prefer paying two new teachers since paying one teacher with a master's degree is more than twice the salary of the two new teachers combined. Isn't it funny how they expect you to do an excellent job educating the future generation yet they barely pay you what you are worth? Best of luck to you!
