I would like to know more about White Marble Rock. Can somebody please explain the -weathering process and how white marble rock breaks down -the mass wasting process of white marble -how compaction works in white marble -categorize it in intrusive or extrusive -describe how the rock cooled -type of volcano the rock was in -describe the type of magma, eruption and the relationship -explain the term regional or contact -describe how pressure and heat changed the rock -describe how the rock metamorphosed -describe three different waves move through white marble and correct timing.

Answer:
Marble is not an igneous rock and has no relationship to magma, volcanoes, etc. Therefore, it is not extrusive or intrusive. Three waves moving through marble...P waves, S waves, surface waves P waves arrive first, then S waves (secondary). Surface waves travel more slowly than body waves (P and S) http://allshookup.org/quakes/wavetype.htm Formation: Marble is metamorphosed limestone, composed of fairly pure calcite (a crystalline form of calcium carbonate, CaCO3). This metamorphic process causes a complete recrystallization of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of calcite and/or dolomite crystals. The temperatures and pressures necessary to form marble usually destroy any fossils and sedimentary textures present in the original rock. Pure white marble is the result of metamorphism of very pure limestones. (no impurities) http://www.graniteland.com/infos/home/marble Weathering process: Rain water, particularly in combination with the atmospheric gases, may cause dissolution of the marble, generating salt movement within the micro-structure. Temperature can intensify the deterioration rate, and the patterns of salt relocation within the stone. High temperatures normally multiply the chemical changes. Sudden changes in temperature can cause stresses due to the differential in expansion. Moisture is considered to be one of the foremost causes of the problems that may happen. However other troubles like erosion due to wind and mutilation may also occur. http://www.brighthub.com/engineering/civil/articles/50498.aspx
