What to wear to a job interview as a hostess?

  • Hi guys, I'm 16 and I am going to apply at several restaurants next week to hostess but I don't know what is appropriate to wear. I want to make a good first impression as they often have a mini on-the-spot interview when you drop off your application :) I'm going to apply at Earls, Cactus Club, etc. (not super formal but not super casual family sort of restaurants). The hostesses there typically wear a mid-thigh to knee-length black dress with black pumps but would it be okay to wear a floral dress and flats to apply for the job? Or maybe a colorful sheer blouse with a simple bodycon skirt? I don't want to look like I showed up in all black like I'm working the job already but I don't think it would be appropriate to come in cut off denim shorts and a tank top either! Also, because I haven't worked a job before, I can't fill in a bunch of the spaces on the application form - will this be a problem? Or should I just bring in my resume with volunteer work listed? Thanks for any advice because I don't really know what I'm doing!

    Hi, It's great that you are looking for a job at 16, that shows allot about you as a person already, all good(: Too answer your question; Sorry but DON'T go there wearing a floral dress. This is what you should wear; something that says; responsible, mature and together. Like pin striped black dress pants with a white blouse, you could wear either black flats or black pumps but I would go with the pumps. Target is a good place too go, and there not too expensive. It wouldn't even be a bad idea to wear a fitted blazer over the blouse, you should dress too impress. And if you show up in all black, "like your working there" so you put it. That doesn't matter, they dress there employees on what they like them too wear, and anyways they don't know that you wear flowery dresses(: unless you show up in one, haha LIKe i said i would go with blaCK PINstriped dress pants, a white dressy shirt or blouse and some black pumps..You can NEVER go wrong with dressing that way it always looks good and on everyone(: Hope you get the job(:

No matter what the job is you're going for dress for the job you dream to have. Since you're young I would get some nice suit pants and a white button up blouse. If you wear heels keep them shortnot high pumps. No bracelets just maybe a necklace and earrings. don't forget to wear awatch.

I think you can probably wear the floral dress and flats. It would be an appropriate combination for this job application. I don't think the blank spaces on the application should be a problem--some potential employers may shy away from hiring you due to your lack of work experience, but do bring your resume with the volunteer work listed. Take your time through the interview and try not to be too nervous. If you are a nice-looking girl who is well dressed and who presents herself well you should have a good chance of being hired. Since restaurants typically have a high turnover of personnel your chances might be even better. Good luck!
