I'm a student visa in England. Do I need visa to travel to the Republic of Ireland?

I would advise you to ignore anyone who suggests you attempt to enter the Republic of Ireland by ferry or by any other means without the correct visa - if you get caught not only will it jeopardise any chance you have of visiting the Republic again, it will also jeopardise your British visa http://www.embassyofireland.co.uk/home/index.aspx?id=49653

I am sure that the Irish government would like you to have a visa for visiting their country. In reality though, you can walk on and off the night ferry without going through any customs, so anybody could make the journey without being stopped.
