Balanced chemical equation?

Balanced chemical equation?

  • I would like to know the balanced chemical equation for strontium nitrate reacting with sucrose. I realize that this is a gas forming reaction but am not sure what gases could be a product, diatomic nitrogen? carbon dioxide? If someone could give me the correct balanced chemical equation i would greatly appreciate it.

  • Answer:

It takes place in two stages 2Sr(NO3)2 --> 2SrO + 4NO2 + O2 the sucrose combusts in the oxygen produced C12H22O11 + 12O2 ---> 12CO2 + 11H2O at the temperature of the reaction, the sucrose may also be able to take some oxygen from the NO2 to burn.
