2011 Mitsubishi Lancer vs. Honda Fit?
-
So, I am looking to get a new car. I could see myself driving both the Honda Fit and the Mitsubishi Lancer ES but I'm leaning towards the Lancer because I find it more visually appealing. I'm not worried about speed or any of that, all I care about is reliability. The car that I own right now is a 2000 Toyota Camry (I bought it last year as my first car) and although the Camry is a great car, I got a lemon because I've had to replace almost everything in the engine and I don't want to go through this again. I know Hondas are reliable cars, but I was wondering about the Mitsubishi Lancer. Are they almost as reliable/not too expensive to maintain versus a Honda? Oh, and both cars I'm looking at are 2011 and have very low mileage. Thank you for your help!

Answer:
Honda is no more reliable than Mitsubishi. It's a complete myth that Honda and Toyota are more reliable cars...the fact is, Honda and Toyota pay companies like JD Power and Associates to say they are the #1 car. Kind of how directors campaign and buy voters to get best film of the year at the Academy awards. Do a search on yahoo or google for "Honda Recalls 2012" or "Toyota Recalls 2012" or if you really want to feel duped, search for recalls for 2011. Both companies had recalls dealing with hundreds of thousands of cars, including the Civic, accord, camry, corolla, and Acura and Lexus lines. Now, I am not saying Mitsubishi is more reliable than either or any other car company. What I am saying is that like any car, if you take care of it and do proper maintenance, a Mitsubishi will last as long as any Honda or Toyota. And think about this, if Mitsubishi cars were so unreliable, why does the Lancer Evolution get pitted against cars that are more expensive? I've seen reviewers put it against the Nissan GT-R, Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche, or anything with AWD. And in most instances, the reviewer will chose the Evolution... Now all that tech that's on the Evolution, tickles down to the Lancers and Outlander cars. For example, the AWD system on the Lancer Ralliart, the Lancer SE AWD, the Outlander AWD, and the Outlander Sport AWD are all taken from the Evolution 9's SAWC (AWD). The Lancer Ralliart, Lancer line (except the GTS/GT) all share the same 4B11 as the Evolution X. Personally, I think the Fit is an ok car, nothing special...I would definitely take the better looking and safer Lancer over it. The current range of Lancers all received the IIHS highest rating for safety...
