Is it possible to be allergic to certain dog breeds, but not all?

Big dog breeds that are amazing :D.. continued?

  • Okay nobody seems to know what i mean by large dog breeds. I want a huge dog, one that will stick around if camping or hiking. will protect me and my other dog if needed. Protect his/her territory. GSD are a great dog, I have one already other then she's a cross between something else. Ever since my dad brought home the akita/lab I've wanted a bigger dog then him. One that I can train. I'm talking large dog breeds not small ones or medium ones. The dog I have now is a mix of colly/lab/retriever. Medium sized pure black good tempermant dog. He's still a pup but yeah. any ideas hints?

Errr... Expanding on my previous answer then, check out some mastiffs maybe? Mastiffs are very steadfast and protective dogs, though they overheat easily, so if you're climbing moutains to go camping, they may not be the best choice. If you're just driving out to a campsite, then a mastiff should be fine. Other than that, check out Great Danes, Irish WolfHounds, Scottish Deerhounds, etc. They are all tall dogs, though not as stocky as Mastiffs.

Huskies are great, they look kinda like wolves. But that would be my 2nd choice... I have a male pure bred GSD. He gets fed well, meat, leftovers sometimes, bones, 80 lbs, and huge :D He protects my backyard like nobody's business. We always had birds in our backyard, after a year with him, none lol. We took him camping once with the family... it was amazing. He explored on his own, call his name and he'd be there in a flash. Just don't forget to train them well btw. He is part of the reason I wasn't afraid to GO camping.... on friday the 13 ;)

Rock On!

I believe I already answered this, and I said your best breed was an Ultimate Mastiff.

Afghan Hound

if you want a dog which will protect you at all costs, you will need to be an experienced dog owner/trainer, but below is a list,im a fan of big dogs :) 1.Dogo argentino (these are illegal in certain countries) 2.dog de Bordeaux 3.a bullmastiff 4. Doberman 5. my favourite, A pit bull or similar aka, staffordshire bull terriers maybe smaller but they are just as good for personal protection. 6.rotti 7. filo brasileiro (illegal in some countries) dont make the mistake of picking the biggest breed, these are bred to be gentle giants, such as the great dane and the Neapolitan mastiff they are for comfort, not really protection remember, these dogs are extremely hard to train, do not buy one thinking you can do it easily, they need constant rewarding, NOT punishment, these dogs dont bode well with punishment, you will just end up with a big bulshy dog who do not respect you, or even worse, afraid of you, however if you have what it takes to train one of these, you will realise its the best purchase you have ever made, they are full of love for THEIR owner, not generally for other people or animals, they seem to be wary, exspecially ,dogo, filo and mastiffs. i hope i helped :)

If you haven't raised a wolf.. then you have no idea their temperament.... a GSD is not a wolf Anyway... based on what you are describing ANATOLIAN SHEPARD http://www.nasrn.com/about.html http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/anatolianshepherd.htm they are "flock guardian" dogs... they like to keep an eye on their people, so they aren't prone to roam like a high prey driven dog they get VERY BIG WARNING -- they take ALOT.. and I mean A WHOLE LOT of work... worth all of it if you do it right I am the current proud foster mom of Twister... an Anatolian tornado orphan who is now @ 1 year old... originally brought her in at 4 weeks... placed her at 3 months & then her new owner nearly died from brain aneurysm, so she is back with us -- Wonderful Dog!!! When we talk her on walks, people like to tell us how beautiful our "Big Blonde German Shepard" is.... because they never heard of an Antolian
