How do eBay sellers in China sell items so cheap?

  • Ok so I buy lots of items on eBay. Mostly electronic accessories. The price of these for buy it now is as low as $0.99. I see some items on auctions go for $0.01. The same sellers who are losing money on the auctions keep selling the same products for the same price. How can they make any sort of profit?? eBay fees are 9% of total sale. Paypal feels are 0.35 + 2%. Shipping is high too, something like USA $1.50 when converted. Then you have the cost of the actual item, which when I go to Chine, have been there, is like ~0.50 for the actual product. So how the hell do people make any sort of money? Rumors I've heard: They get subsidized mail from the government. Rebates for exporting. Risking selling at a loss, for that one person that decides to buy a 100 qty buy it now. Sell the accounts when reach a certain feedback.

    it is an investment. once the account has high feedback they can sell it to someone whom could set up a scam to "sell" an expensive item.

They can also do that so as to get more buyers whose e-mail address they will then have, so they can send them offers for other things.

they probably buy these things at bulk, and are selling a lot of it. even though it may not seem like they are making a lot of money, they really are. think about it. when you go to your favorite store, that company isn't buying the product for 10 dollars, & then charging you 10 dollars. they need to make money, they get the product in bulk & buy it for like a dollar, and then make the money. i used to work at a high end store, & the manager told me how a 100 dollar shirt i was folding, only cost them like 15 cents. the mark up is crazy! i love ebay. lol it's kind of addicting, because some of the deals are just so amazing, i can't pass up. i get everything like 75% off. i don't get too many penny auctions..but i get a lot of stuff for like 3-10 dollars. i don't really think the products are fake. maybe some are, but i buy make up on there, and compared it to stuff i bought at the store, & its the exact same. you should check out flea markets if you haven't yet, the deals there are just as good. i get designer perfume for 20 bucks.
