What kind of bow should I get?

I'm a 17 year old girl and i would love to start doing archery so my boyfriend and I can do something together because he loves it. I'm really interest in starting. But what kind of bow should I begin with? Let me know please (:

Answer:
Well it depends on whether you want to shoot compound, recurve, longbow, etc. Then decide on a brand. Head down to your local archery shop and try them out. All bows shoot differently, and you may love one and hate another. My top favorite brands are Hoyt and Mathews. They're the top two most expensive, though. A good starter bow might be a PSE or Martin. It really depends on what you're looking for though.

Hi, welcome to the sport of archery! Recurves are great bows for beginners. The recurve takedowns are really handy in that they break down, making transport and storage a lot better. The Martin Jaguar Recurve bow will cost you less than $150 and is of high quality - a kit with all that you need to get started (including arrows) is only $40 more. This bow comes in a variety of draw weights that would fit a girl of your age and strength - you probably need a 30# or 35# draw weight. Check out the below site for a number of good educational articles for beginners and good prices for the above mentioned bow.

The "experts" on this site are all full of big ideas which are just opinion. Here is a series of 4 youtubes which may give you some useful info. In my humble opinion, it may be best (and cheapest) to begin with a long bow. Nothing fancy but it did just fine for instinctive shooting for 50,000 years. This is part 4 of the series but if you look at the bottom, it gives links to parts 1,2,3. And you will find this very fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKNCzaC_ISY&feature=relmfu A little more serious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peOIDvITAMg&feature=plcp Total Archery: (Oh crap, they changed the whole youtube menu, I can't find it.... Dang. They're in the middle of the "spring gathering" so everything is abnormal until June 7.) I suggest a simple longbow. A Female age 17 can conquer worlds! But if you are just doing it for your boyfriend, you won't have the passion to become really good at it. You must find your own path and some good reasons why. EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peOIDvITAMg&feature=plcp This is a very heartwarming video about archery you might like. Just remember, http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h681.html terrorized the all-Powerful British Navy when he was 19 years old. And 17 year old young ladies have been known to change the world. Buy yourself a bow, go forth and conquer!
