What can I do to find the right career to pursue in college?
-
I honestly have no idea what I want to do to pursue a college career. I am interested in some things, but I am not sure what to do. I heard of Aptitude tests and other things. What can I do to actually pursue a career that can be meaningful to me and that may not take too much money nor years of extended study?

I am faced with that same problem. Doctors take nearly ten years and lawyers are boring. That's why I want to become a helicopter pilot, if you go through the airforce it is free and the pay is pretty good too.

Hi Brandon: There are a variety of tests that measure your intelligence or aptitude, inventory your skills and assess your ability to succeed in a career. Aptitude Tests Aptitude tests measure your ability to acquire a skill or do a particular type of work. Career Tests Career tests are used to provide an indication of which jobs match your personality type and which careers you have an aptitude for. Intelligence (IQ) Tests Intelligence tests measure your intellectual functioning, or in plain language, how smart you are. Inventories Inventories are checklists that you can use to identify factors which you relate to - and which you don't. Personality Tests Personality tests and other psychological tests measure your personal characteristics, your emotional makeup and your stability. What helped me last year to finally figure out I am mean't to be a Virtual Assistant was reading the Pathfinder by Nicholas Lore. He also runs the Rockport Institute that offers career assessment tests, but there it is not mandatory to do both. I do plan on attending his institute when I can, meanwhile - I re read his book frequently to reinforce the career path I am now on. Please let us know what you decide to do and thank you for sharing with us! Angela :)

I suggest going to a guidance counsellor (if in high school), employment agency, or career counsellor (if in college/university or can pay privately). Ultimately there is no "right" career - it's all about balancing your passions with your needs. Try to stay positive. Try volunteering in an area of interest to you, or speak to people in the field - try LinkedIn or calling companies to ask if you can do an information interview with someone.

I wish those aptitude tests would become illegal. They always steer kids that take them into the arts. No one is hiring in these fields. No demand. No jobs. Perhaps it's because kids that know what they want are good at math and science. ^ get a degree focused in these fields.
