What speakers can I get for TV surround sound?
-
Warning: I have no audio/tv knowledge so please be gentle. My LCD has decent sound, but I want cheap speakers in the back of the room too for surround sound. I'm not looking for amazing sound quality (I probably wouldn't notice much difference). My TV has the following slots that may be useful: PC: Audio In, Headphones, L, R, HDMI (currently leads to my cable box) Component: L, R, Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr Control Firmware: RS232C Control Port, Firmware Upgrade Port The Cable Box also has: Audio L, R (SD), Digital Audio, USB Any recommendations for easy to install, affordable speakers are much appreciated!!

Answer:
It's a bit more complex than just adding speakers. You need an amp to drive speakers as your TV does not have power to drive speakers. And you do not really want to use computer speakers for a room system. These are designed to surround a desk/single seat. You can try to fill a room with them - but plan on re-buying every few months when you burn them out. You need an AV Receiver, and a 5.1 speaker system. You feed the AV Receiver from an Optical Output. Your TV should have one - but your cable box also has one. Go to Amazon and search for "Onkyo Home Theater". These come with full-sized AV Receivers, self-powered subwoofer and 5 inexpensive, but tone matched speakers. There are a variety of different prices. Hope this helps.

You can not just add speakers to your tv. Your tv only has an optical audio output. This is a digital output the has to be decoded by a multi channel receiver, home theater in a box with an optical audio input or a sound bar. Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them or for up grading. They are mainly designed for you to watch a movie with surround sound. when one item fails the whole system has to be replaced. The sound bar does not really create the sound from the back due to the speakers are up front. The only system that I can recommend is the Onkyo HT-S 3400, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. Demo the system at any Fry"s Electronic, the price was under $400. You can add a Panasonic blu ray disc player model BD-75 for under $75 and you have a nice system. Hope this will help you out.

you will need an amplifier or AV receiver to get connected to the tv before you can add speakers, due to a your tv does not have an amp to power external speakers
