What is cellular data on iphone 3gs?

Use iPhone 3GS no data plan. Activate sim?

I purchased an iPhone 3GS and I set it up so that I can use it without a data plan and without AT&T knowing. Now all I have to do is put my sim card in. The problem is I left my old phone on an airplane. So I need to activate a new sim but if I call at&t to activate it while it's in my iPhone then they will charge me a data plan. I don have any other phones I can activate it in. Any ideas??

I don't know what you've done but there's actually no way to avoid a data plan on an iPhone. Regardless of what you do to the phone, the network will recognize it as an iPhone and will add a smart phone data plan to your account. This includes jailbreaking, unlocking and turning off cellular data.
