Yes you can upgrade to future firmwarea. But Your gonna have to do a fresh restore every time a new jailbreak comes out for a new firmware so make sure to back up your iPhone. You cannot upgrade the OS unless there is a jailbreak for that OS.

yeah you can but you have to make sure there is a jailbreak for the version youre upadating to. right now for my version there is only a tethered version which isnt too bad because my ipod never turns off cuz i keep it charged, although untethered is better, you can youtube it and find out alot
