    Speed workouts include intervals, repeats, and tempo runs. For an interval, run your distance (400 or 800) at a comfortable but fast pace and then jog a recovery (200 or 400). This interval can be done about 3 times for a beginner, then work up to 6. Repeats are the same thing without a recovery jog, just give yourself a 2-minute break to rest. Tempo runs are good for the mile. In a tempo hold a fast pace for ten minutes (or 5 minutes to start) then finish with an even faster pace for another ten minutes (or 5 minutes).
