How long is Red wine good for after its been opened?

How long is wine good for once opened?

  • I enjoy a glass or two of wine with a meal and my wife also has one glass but then the bottle might sit opened in the fridge for several days. At what point is it no longer any good? Can it be used in cooking after it is too old to drink?

  • Answer:

My family has been making wine for generations, we have never used any conservatives or a fridge, but in order to maintain wine, we basically follow this rules Keep wine in to cool dark place, and when opened, always top-up the container. (as the wine going bad has much to do with the amount of its suffice exposed in to the air) In your case since topping up is not possible you can try dividing it in to smaller bottles, you ll be surprised by the length of time, it will be fresh, even off fridge! And NO do not use bad wine in cooking! it will spoil the food !!! :)

opened wine can last for several days but not for more than two weeks! it depends on the temperature it is placed.

It would depend on the alcohol content of the wine, but after several days, it's turning into Vinegar. Something you may consider is, go to a specialty store and get a small, one gallon VINEGAR BARREL.. they look like miniature whiskey barrels and you put your left over wines in the barrel and let them ferment into vinegar.. you can even get fancy and get one for red wines and one for white wines.. OH and you will need to buy WINE YEARS or CHAMPAGNE YEAST to add to the wine.
