I'm being sued by a business over a negative comment written on yelp. HELP?!?
-
okay so here's the break down: i wrote a negative review on yelp about a cat hospital i went to for my sick cat. they were rude, overpriced and unattentive and for the money i paid for the checkup, i felt as if i've been robbed of my money so in return i decided to write my factual experience of what happened and how i felt about that hospital. That business has MANY negative reviews along the same lines of what i said in my post. After that, I've been bombarded with countless threatening mails from his office telling me to remove my post or else he'll sue me. Yelp is a place where the public can write their negative or positive experience for business' and nothing in my post were defamatory at all. fast forward to now: I got served court papers a few days ago to defend myself in court. I WAS ACTUALLY BEING SUED! for leaving a comment on a site where it allows for comments. Here's the catch, when i went to the hospital to sign in all of my confidential patient information (where he used to harass me with), there was a fine print that i failed to go over and i just signed it. (i know..ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT.) but yeah under one of them, it said, "online reviews are appreciated however you have to discuss with the office before posting up a negative review or else it would be considered slander." it's so stupid how i have to call them up and ASK them permission if it's ok to post a bad review for them before i can actually post it?? OK, so my MAIN QUESTION to all you lawyer people is: Can this policy be used against me in court? that is actually the main thing i'm worried about because i've "theoretically" broken the contract. In my defense, my comments were not meant to hurt his business. nothing about it was slanderous/libelous because i wasn't defaming him in any way. I just wrote the review so the public can be aware of my experience that happened at the hospital. again, all the other negative reviews on his accounts all said the same thing i said in my post. please please help me. i need to gather as much information I can to win this case for myself and all the other "yelpers." i'm afraid if he does win this case, how many more cases is he going to take to court for all the other negative comments on his account? he's going to make a shitload of money if this was the case. whew i know this is a lot to take in, but any advise and comments are greatly appreciated. thank you for your time!

Answer:
Just do what they say and you'll be fine if it wasn't for the fine print you could do whatever you want. Expressing an opinion is legal in most places and in the constitution depending on country
