How To Increase Internet Speed In Beam?

Increase internet speed! New modem or Router?

  • Ok so I have wireless high speed internet service through centurylink. I have a basic actiontec pk 5000 wireless router bought from bestbuy. Our internet is the cheapest package, an advertised 7Mbps speed. It's never been very fast but lately (without us changing anything or using the internet more/less or anything) it has been getting much slower. I took a few speed tests and my internet connection was under 1Mbps...well under the supposed 7Mbps we're supposed to get. Is this a Modem/Router issue or what? I've tried resetting it by unplugging the power for a bit and then re-connecting but no improvement. Thanks for any advice!

Put the router away and plug in your computer directly to modem.Then unplug the power on modem and wait for 30 seconds then power on again and do a speed test. If you speed is fast then the problem is your router.Either do a factory reset by pressing the reset button or buy a new one. If the speed remains slow then it's the modem issue.Contact your internet service provider and ask for a replacement.Do NOT try to buy a modem on your own.You can buy any router you want but the modem must be issued by the service provider.
