How much is 1MB of data on a cell phone?

Is there a cell phone carrier that does not require data for a smartphone?

  • I've been using smartphones for a long time with no data. There's wifi everywhere I go except in my car, and I don't use my phone when I'm driving. However, my carrier (att) requires all relatively new smartphones to pay an extra $20 plan, which I will never, ever use. I don't want to throw $20/month into a black hole, but I still want a smartphone that I can use with wifi. I checked with verizon, sprint, and t-mobile, but they all seem to require the same thing now (it's almost as if they got into a room together and decided to do this at once, but that would be silly of course, ha ha). I can't think of any other cell phone carriers. Are there any that allow you to own a smart phone without data?

  • Answer:

Check T-Mobile prepaid. $30 plan gives you 1500 minutes and/or texts, and 30Mb of data. You can use t-mobile or unlocked compatible smartphones with this plan.

no, all major carriers require data plans with any new smartphone you could get a Samsung Galaxy Nexus directly from Google, and then set it up with a SIM card from Straight Talk for $45 a month, unlimited everything, including data.
