Other answers

If you are a high school student in the US you probably qualify to take the course. In New Jersey you might be able to take it through your high school since that state allows you to be certified as an EMT at 16. The American Red Cross does provide EMT training in some parts of the US. However, the American EMT is not an internationally recognized title due to the very few hours of training needed to get the certificate. You look up the International Red Cross and see which professions are preferred if you want to move around the world as a volunteer. Most want a Paramedic equivalent to the training in other countries which is at least a Bachelors degree, Physician Assistants, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners as well as doctors.

red cross does not run emt programs in most areas--including NJ if you can pay for the course and will be here long enough to take it, you can take it
