How are public schools in Bensalem?

How would you make progress in the US public schools that are failing?

  • Many areas have great, thriving public schools. I'm not overly worried about those schools. How would you address the problem of failing schools?

  • Answer:

This is very unlikely to happen.... But... First, we'd have to get at the root of the problem, a bloated federal government. Way too much money is siphoned out of the states due to the 16th amendment and a bloated federal. If that money were left within the states, they'd have more money and no strings attached from the federal government to manage issues like education. Thus, repeal the 16th amendment and leave the money within the states. Second, get rid of the department of Education. Third, allow for school choice. School vouchers or a school tax credits to parents that would peg a base dollar amount for per pupil spending per child. Parents would be able to use that amount wherever they decided to send their children. Public schools would cost the base per pupil amount, thus under privileged families would still have a school for their kids. If parents opt for a private or charter school, they pay anything above the per pupil funding. The funding follows the children wherever they attend. Get rid of public unions. They are a conflict of interest and suckle at the teat of government. They push for and elect politicians friendly to them so they can get better sweetheart deals. Private schools don't have a problem with tenure and poor and unproductive teachers. Public schools do though, and they should have to be vetted from time to time to make sure they are worthy and qualified just like any person working in the private sector; merit/performance based, and above all GET RID OF TENURE!

Easy peasey: We're spending around $10,000 per student for education here.....why not: 1) Fire all the janitors, Principals, lunch ladies, etc. 2) Close all the buildings (better yet, sell them) 3) Give that money to the parents of those children to hire their own teachers.....a good teacher could instruct 10 kids( instead of 20 - 30+) in her own home or the students(rotating ala Blue Birds/Indian Guides style) and make six figures easy. Or we can keep doing what we're doing.....it's working so, ahem.... well

Let parents send their kids to any school in the city. Location shouldn't be the deciding factor.

No More Mr. White Guy

Make teacher tenure available once they have established themselves based on merit, not time.

Secular Humanist

Anything run by the government is a failure.

A-Rod Namikaze

A tax credit from the IRS so all parents can send their kid to the school of their choice.

Average College Idiot

l would do two things.1 De-fang the Unions so that we be seeing a lion with no teeth. 2. let the states run their own school again with our government giving up complete and absolute control to them. We would save a lot of money and have far better school then we have now.
