How much should I weigh for a model?

How much would I have to weigh to model?

  • I'm around 5"8-9, (174cm, I think.) and I weigh a bit under 9 stone, about 8st11. What would I have to weigh to model? (catwalk/haute couture/ anything except glamour! I'm 14, I don't think that would be legal in the UK....) Also if you think modelling would be a good idea, how would I get started? I was offered an interview in the street once, I was stopped by a photographer, but I couldn't make the shoot, and I don't really want to have to wait for scouts to find me again! I'd rather try to get into it myself.

  • Answer:

For the type of modelling you prefer you've already got the height. To get your exact height, for such professions, measure your 'rising height' (straight out of bed). This is because we all shrink a little during the day. I think your weight is too high for Catwalk etc. You're already the weight of a grown woman your height. It might be "puppy fat" though. Please do *not* slim to get into modelling. There's at least three reasons I can think of... (1) You're probably not genetically right for some modelling. (2) There are, however, many other types of modelling [more below]. (3) You are still an adolescent and reducing your calories could deprive you of essential nutrients. And cause you brittle bones when an old woman. Examples of other modelling you may be suitable for are :- - Fitness - Catalogue - Print - Magazine - Advertising - Promotional - Character - Commercial - Editorial - Parts (hands, feet, etc) - Hair - Photographic. To get going just make appointments to visit a few established model agencies. Maybe go with a friend, a big sister or even your mum. Hope I've helped...

Why be a model? Whenever I see a model, the first thing I think of is "how loose is that pussy?"

Unfortunately, the media puts an image in our minds that models must be stick thin figures..this is NOT the case! From your description I'm sure you'd made a great model, and the fact that you have been stopped by a photographer before indicates that you are a pretty young girl. Don't focus so much on if you're good enough, because if you have confidence, you will achieve your goals :) If you want to get into it yourself, go to an agency, make a good impression and you may be offered a spot! Don't give up, keep working hard at what you love!
