Which summer job should I choose?

What should I get as a summer job?

  • I was thinking of getting a summer job and I was wondering a few things (I'm also listing some conditions that cannot be avoided, there's some in both A & B): A. Should I go for an intern/community hours job? I. What job would be perfect for these? II. How much is the maximum amount of hours per week for a minor (17)? III. How far away is it from San Jose, CA (I wouldn't mind it being a bit far, just not San Diego far)? B. Should I get a paying job? I. What job would have the highest maximum/minimum salary? II. How many hours can a minor work for this? III. What am I supposed to do for the position? IIII. Please note I'm an average (or slightly above average) teenager, please refrain from jobs that involve strenuous/rigorous activity, that's much appreciated. IV. Any jobs with tips are nice, but I really don't mind if it's without tip. V. I don't have a driver's license yet, so if I may ask that you refrain from suggesting any jobs that involves driving cars, that would much appreciated. There's a reason why I want either or. Internship/Community hours to make my application when I go to apply for a college look slightly better. A paying job so that I can afford the college that I choose. I still have 1 year of highschool left, which leaves a bit of room for flexibility depending on how my grades turn out next year. I will be able to stay/apply to the same/alternative job if I get good grades. What kind of job do you think I should get (Favorite subjects: Computers, Animals, Playing Cards [NO for Magic: The Gathering, just no], Video Games)?

  • Answer:

If you've never had a job before, you should try for fast food. Internships are almost always for people in college. Another option is trying to work for some kind of farm (berries, etc.) since they look for people who are seasonal. I don't think it's realistic to try and look for some great job if you're only 17. Additionally, if you have good grades, colleges really won't give a crap about your community service unless it's related to some kind of academic thing. Concentrate on bettering yourself academically and making some cash.
