Answer:
It's a common scam, they expect you not to bother returning at "cashing up time, they do it in nightclubs also. The garage probably has CCTV and one of them will pointed at the till. You have the right to access images of yourself that may have been recorded by a CCTV camera system. This is because the Data Protection Act of 1998 means that organisations have to make any personal data available to you if you request it. You will need to make a request in writing to the owner of the CCTV system. The owner's details are usually written on a sign attached to the camera. You will need to provide enough information so that you can be identified in the footage, for example a specific date and time, and a description of yourself and your clothing. The organisation must give you a copy of the CCTV footage within 40 days of you asking for it. You may be charged a fee of up to £10. which is the same amount as you was scammed, but it might get the guy sacked....which will be worth it.

If I knew for a fact that I was cheated out of change, I'd still refuse to budge, but I'd make double sure first that I was cheated. The first thing I'd do though is wonder why I have pounds in my purse in the middle of the US.

Sounds like you've been robbed by a member of staff. Tell the manager and call the police; chances are an internal investigation would ensue and the thief may have done it before and get sacked. Always threaten police action - nobody wants that.

Moment you left, you lost. Shop for new gas station, see the manager, write the company, with names and dates. Does ENGLAND have a better business, you it.

Demand they do an X on the till, Take the issue to head office if necessary.

You shouldn't have left in the first place. In future ask to see manager and make them check CCTV cameras.
