What are some good fashion drawing books?

Can you learn to draw from drawing books?

  • I've looked into like..the best drawing books and I can't help but feel sort of frustrated when going through them. First off is the "were not here to make nice drawings but an understanding of what you are drawing" RIGHT then i'm like wtf? It turns off the novice right off the bat....or the whole..."I won't explain the proportions of the human body but will instead give you constant pics of the skeletal structure...of course not in its entirety. Then all these rules like "Look at what your drawing and then look away and then draw it....or draw it while not looking at your paper, OR just draw spheres, cubes, triangles, in different angles over and over again...and then somehow connect them all together. What annoys me is the constant "It doesn't have to look good" crap..and then the artist parading 2 or 3 pages right after saying that of art the novice would be in awe about? Like...dude...you said draw spheres how the fk did you draw a kid with spheres so easily....like why didn't we do a step to step on how you got there lol. Can you really learn from drawing books or do you just have to draw whatever is around you until you like the way it looks lol?

The answer is yes, but it seems like you may be starting with books that are intended for more experienced artists. Try manga drawing books (sometimes they're titled as anime drawing books). The point is that they help you learn how to use shapes to create a "frame" for your figures. When looking for a beginners book (and I mean a true beginner) look for something that takes it step by step "Draw a circle for a head, draw lines for the body, make ovals for the limb sections" etc. Not all of the images need to be done this way, just a few. I would say to avoid anything that jumps ahead to shading until you're comfortable with your abilities to create a sketch outline. Once you've mastered the outlines, you can get into more detail. I recommend a simple manga-style because they can be more basic than most drawing books, without looking terribly childish and like you're just beginning. If you don't like manga style, remember that you can use the style to get used to making lines and drawing out forms for people and sometimes even for animals. It's just not usually as complex to create manga as it is to try and make something more realistic.

You can! Learning different techniques from books is great, but sometimes they're ridiculous. That's the author's interpritation of how they draw - not yours. So, by getting better at art you need to just find YOUR style, and YOUR way to draw. It's in you. Everyone's artistic. Like I mentioned before, they're great for finding out certain techiniques and whatnot, but I suggest taking a course, or looking up YouTube videos so you can explore your own creativity, and learn at the same time. Not all art is drawing and painting you know, that takes alot of talent and patience.

books means self-taught. u need proper guidance. start with joining art school and start from basics. it takes time and patience. u have to master human anatomy to go for any other technique for cartooning of human form or animals.

Wow, you sound frustrated. I hope you don't give up. I had a really good experience with a book called "Drawing on the right side of the brain." There are a few principles, and then simple doable instructions. I applied them and in no time went from zero to pretty decent. I drew this: http://bit.ly/JbJliu And this: http://bit.ly/KHWbF7 Here's the book: http://amzn.to/drawingBook You still have to practice practice practice, but it's no longer groping in the dark. You see progress immediately. Good luck!
