Where can we learn Japanese online?

Where can I learn Japanese online for free?

  • I seem to have a lot of time on my hands (I'm 17 btw) and I'm interested in languages, so I decided to take up Japanese (as much as I can). I've already learned the Haragana and Kitakana symbols and can more or less read them (I barely know any Kanji). So is there a website that can help me learn Japanese, for free (if that wasn't implied)?

  • Answer:

Try iKnow.jp. iKnow will teach you words. You don't have to pay to find it useful, but you can pay if you want some of the features. Basically, if you go there, find "Find Courses," then "Japanese Core," there's 6,000 words you can learn, in both kanji and kana, with audio pronunciations and sentences too. For grammar, if you want free resources, look up Tae Kim's Guide to Japanese on Google. It's very, VERY helpful and free.

Have you tried downloading an app on a smart phone or iPod? I am not an expert here, but the 2 sites that I found were http://www.freejapaneselessons.com/ and http://www.easyjapanese.org/.

Personally i would hit the senior centers and they do have ones in asian communities. There you would find an exchanged and could greatly enhance your skills of speaking and culture. Try learning the game "Go" that would get you in good with them.
