How much should I ask for babysitting?

How to ask how much I will be paid for babysitting?

  • The lady has given me all the days and hours and times and all the information, but I don't want to commit and be taken advantage of. How do I propose a price (about $3.75/hour) or ask what she'llpay me? I don't want to be rude or ask too much, they're a young couple with a baby and I'd be babysitting because they both work.

I think it seems easier (in my opinion) to just charge a "daily" rate. Instead of hourly. I dont know where you live or cost of living. But I do daycare from home and for a baby I charge $40 a day. I know I could charge alot more, but I try and not charge too much since the cost of living up here is expensive. And I dont need to work, my husband works and I stay home with our daughter. BUT that being said maybe you could think of doing that. It seems like it works easier for parents as well instead of hourly. I would just tell them that you normally charge "x ammount of money" per day and see how they feel about that. If they want to negotiate they will say something. I think its always better if you the person providing care-let them know your price-thats probably why they didnt include that information :)

As a mother myself, it's often much easier if my baby sitter just tells me how much she charges. That way I'm not tempted to unknowingly under pay or over pay her. If you charge 3.75/child per hour, I would put that out in the open as soon as you talk about babysitting.
