How do you get a job at the post office?

Can you still get a job at the post office with an OTH discharge?

  • I am a GulfWar Vet. I requested a Administrative discharge. I had some tornadoes roll thru my home town. After being contacted via the Red Cross. I requested leave. It was denied! My wife and newborn child was in that town at the time. This was before cell phones. Had no way to know if they were safe. I went UA. turned myself in and was deployed to the Gulf. After coming back i was court martial-ed for it. 21 years later i am trying to get a job with the post office. Can this be done? Is there any time consideration on this? Was the circumstances bad enough to warrant me not getting a post office job? Also has anyone ever stood in front of a discharge review board? Would i have any chance at winning this?

  • Answer:

I am pretty sure the post office is laying off people right now. If it was a dishonorable discharge then you stand no chance of getting a job at the post office.

"21 years later..." "Also has anyone ever stood in front of a discharge review board?" Keep in mind that if you file to upgrade the discharge, that since it has been longer than 15 years ago, you would file with the Board for Correction of Military Records, not the Discharge Review Board.

sorry dude. nope. too much time has passed to make any changes to your discharge, and to work for the goverment as a veteran you need to have an honorable discharge. time is not a factor. a discharge board only sees 7% of all applications for a change to discharge, and fewer than 1% of those are granted. to even GET to a board and get it upgraded, you'd have to be able to PROVE the government made an ERROR in giving you the OTH, that there was an admin error, etc - and that's going to be pretty tough to do. you can try, but you have very little chance of succeeding.
