How do you feel about being asked to code during an interview?

Should I call to follow up about a third interview?

  • Sorry this is pretty long and detailed!! please help if you have been on prior interviews!! Here's how things went: I had my first interview for a well known hospital on March 30th (the interviewer came on campus to hold the initial interviews), he told me at the end of my interview that he would like me to come back for a second interview, and if I do not hear from him in 2-3 weeks, to follow up. I emailed him after 2 weeks. another week went by (this is now 3 weeks) I did not get a response so I called him and left a voice mail. Another couple of days went by and I still did not hear from him, so I called him again, early in the morning, and he finally answered. He told me sorry for the delay, and asked me for 3 days where I can come in for a second interview. He got back to me I think that same day, scheduling my interview for May 17th. I went on the second interview, took an assessment test, then met with the guy I had my first interview with. He told me I passed the test, and that he will communicate with the 2 people I had my second interview with, and he will get back to me soon because they make decisions quickly (something like that). The anticipation was killing me so I decided to follow up with him about 3 business days after my second interview. He told me he had got an email from the people I had my second interview with recently, and he got good feedback from them and there will be a 3rd interview, he just needs to find out when and he will keep me posted. He asked me yet again what days I am available to go in for a 3rd interview (I had already told him this when I met with him the second time). It is now 3 days I have not heard back from him yet, and this position starts on June 4th, which is about a week from now. When I had my second interview, I had to go over to another building to meet him to take the test...i was running a few minutes late and so I called him...when I told him my name his response was "uhhhhh..." and when I told him what I was meeting him for he said "ohh I forgot to put u on my calendar" Soo, I feel like this guy is either really busy, or I really need to be up his butt to find things out. I'm not sure if I should call again and find out when this 3rd interview will be....

  • Answer:

    1) Sounds like this person is not keeping a good schedule for the interviews. 2) If they are filling the position, they most likely would tell you 2 weeks before the start date of the new job because they would want you to give your current employer a 2 week notice. 3) Some healthcare jobs require several departments to discuss and approve the hiring. 4) They may have already made their decision but are strining you along in the event the other person does not show or accept. I would just call them and leave a mesage. It seems like you have followed up with them well so far. If that person has a manager or another contact person, maybe talk to them and inquire of the status. I'd still look for other jobs!

Dear interviewee: 'Be up his butt to find things out.' Hopefully, they have not made their decision. Sincerely, B.A.S.S.

I do a lot of interviews and read a lot of resumes for my job. Keeping track of people is really difficult during the hiring phase of a job. Bigger companies are worse because the person generally doing the interview may or may not have the final say in who gets hired and they spend a lot of time waiting for the higher ups to decide. Sounds like you called already a few times in the past. If it were me, getting an email or a voicemail saying you were still interested and eager to work would be appropriate. Worst case they let you know they went with someone else.
