Why are people so afraid of death?
-
Death is supposed to be the end right, what's so bad about nothingness, it seems kind of peaceful if you ask me. All I see death as is someone just dying, I don't think it's anything to be afraid of when I think about what It really is. And if religious people just are to afraid to admit that death is the end then, I think that's a bit much. But back to the question. Why are people so afraid to die, or of death in general?

Answer:
Some seem to have a strange believe that they'll be conscious during the nothingness for eternity, and that scares them. They can't imagine that consciousness can end.

Change and the unknown are always scary by default. That's how we are wired. Now, at this point in my life, I have reached the point where I will accept death and have no fears about it, but there was a time when I was a child that I feared death. I was raised to believe in heaven, but it sounded so unreal to me and it was obvious that no one could know for a fact that heaven is real, so I lost sleep worrying about it. I would be willing to bet that at some point in your life you had some trepidation about death, so please do not act like you never did, and no one else ever should. Everyone has had some difficulty accepting that death is inevitable. Many of us outgrow that fear, but it's easier for some than others.

People are afraid of the unknown. No one comes back from death, so no one knows what is beyond it (if anything). Individuals may have "ideas" (or they believe they know), but in the end no one can say with any certainty what happens to us. That is part of our journey to take those steps into the unknown.

Death isnt scary and theres no reason to be scared. *Dying*, on the other hand, is a perfectly reasonable thing to be scared about. Its one of those things thats best avoided, and can be ridiculously painful from what ive seen.
I think people are afraid of the act of dying.

I'm not sure if they are afraid of death or of the way they might die.

They like the idea of a magical fairy land where all their dreams come true and where they can see all their lost loved ones... even if that idea is completely illogical.
